So we keep hearing about viral video’s that have exploded over the internet and are creating a buzz among people. I mean who hasn’t seen the Gangnam Style video yet? With social media taking over word of mouth that we relied on so much 20 years ago it’s becoming easier for marketers to get their material out there however, is there much point without having the creativeness that is required?
Well everyone has creativity in their body and all they have to do is think back to kindergarten when they were given a box of crayons. Those crayons as you grow up have been replaced with books on subjects like math and physics. You’ll want to go back to the basics, and think outside of the norms. The more original and better your idea is the more likely people will be giving you bad advice on it. Make sure to ignore these people and stick to your intuition, these viral videos didn’t become popular because they were like everybody else’s videos out there!
Check out some of these great Guerilla marketing campaigns that have made use of location and creativity! I mean what’s a better way to get someone’s attention than by surprising them?
Another important thing to remember with creativity that the idea or message doesn’t have to be BIG, it just has to change the world. The sovereignty you have over your work will inspire far more people than the actual content ever will. How your own sovereignty inspires other people to find their own sovereignty, their own sense of freedom and possibility, will change the world far more than the work’s objective merits ever will. Your idea doesn’t have to be big. It just has to be yours alone. The more the idea is yours alone, the more freedom you have to do something really amazing. The more amazing, the more people will click with your idea. The more people click with your idea, the more it will change the world.
“You can’t just ask customers what they want and then try to give that to them. By the time you get it built, they’ll want something new” – Steve Jobs
Just remember that the hardest part about being creative is getting used to it!
